Epiphany is a celebration of the wise men coming to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Historically we have misunderstood the story of the magi.

Magi (Magoi) were learned people mostly from the Persian Empire which is modern day Iran.

Daniel was considered a wise man or Magi.

To travel from where they were could have taken as much as two years with the time to discuss, prepare and travel at night when the star could be seen.

This explains why when talking with Herod they were looking for a child up to two years old.

We do not know how many wise men there were, only that they brought three kinds of gifts.

They left in a hidden manner for fear of Herod.

Right after their meeting the holy family left for Egypt.

Herod would try to eliminate the King of the Jews by what is called the Massacre of the Innocents where children of Bethlehem aged 2 and under were murdered.
