From the grime and debris bricks of shame are formed one after another
Each brick is fired and burnt in the horrific heat of humiliation
One by one they are laid on a soft sandy foundation forming each layer
Each layer makes it heavier and the sinking distorts and weakens them
Guilt, fear, humiliation and shame are poor materials and they crumble
The shifting sand destroys the bricks of shame and parts fall into the sand
Keeping the wall from falling down takes effort to maintain the shame
The wall must be saved or others will see the shame hidden for so many years
The wall is a place of safety from scrutiny and a dungeon which imprisons
Will the wall collapse forming a tomb to bury all the guilt and shame
Hiding is a part of life and fear of change leads to helping support the wall
Can I get away, I must get away, but I am still behind the wall weeping
