You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs.” (Psalms 66:11 NKJV)
Psalms is a very human because they are heart cries of those struggling or worshiping God. It is amazing to see God listening to recriminations and accusations and allowing them to be included in the Bible.
The psalmist declares God “brought” us into the net. God did not just catch them but actually placed them in the net where they were trapped and unable to free themselves. Did God actually do this or did they do it themselves? It makes one wonder what exactly the net is.
You laid affliction on our backs.” The psalmist complains about the heavy load of affliction they must bear. As afflictions are added on us they can multiply rather than add to the burden. The pain and struggle can get worse over time as emotional, physical and spiritual strength is drained. Losing hope can also wear us out and make an even heavier load.
