““But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27 NKJV)

As Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will come to them Jesus defines the Holy Spirit as helper and the Spirit of truth.

Helper – summoned or called to be on the side or beside someone and to plead their case before a judge.  To come to someone’s aid or assistance.

Spirit of truth -   Here we need to look at two words.

Spirit  - “the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son”.  (This is a quote from Strong’s)

Truth – what is true under God’s authority and in the circumstances in which we find ourselves.  This is not The Truth who is Jesus but the truth of who we are and what we are called to do by God.

In this passage we see the fullness of the Trinity working together and united in purpose.  The words Jesus used to define the Holy Spirit teach us we are to be united with the Trinity to live out our salvation and serve the God who saved us.

The gift of life does not just make us alive but to be alive means we can follow God’s will and plan and be part of something that is eternal.  Even as we work out our existence we can truly live out God’s plan for our lives and for all creation.

Our lives take on a deeper meaning as we see God working in the lives of the people God calls us to serve reminding us that to serve God is to serve those He loves!

Indeed, as the passage says we are with God from the beginning.  For we truly begin to live when we come to God through Jesus Christ!  We truly become a new person – a new creation!

Are you the same person you were before coming to Jesus?  Do you find being a Christian boring?  Have you sought through the Holy Spirit the call of God in your life?

Bonnie and I went to visit Benny and Dianne McNutt today.  This is my first visit since going on disability.  It was so good to be with them but it was hard.  I have found that the better something is the harder it seems to do it.
