  Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is an  aromatic resin used in incense and perfumes .  It is obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia in the family Burseraceae .  The tree typically grows in the dry, mountainous regions of India, Africa, and the Middle East . Frankincense has a woody, spicy smell and can be inhaled, absorbed through the skin, or taken as a supplement .  It is commonly used as a fragrance in soaps, lotions, and perfumes . Frankincense essential oil can be used for wound care : Its antiseptic properties keep wounds clean. Dilute it with carrier oil before applying to the affected area to reduce inflammation and minimize scarring. It acts as a natural coagulant, stimulating blood clotting and helping to close wounds. The anti-inflammatory properties reduce swelling and redness around wounds, promoting healing. Some practitioners recommend ingesting a small amount daily to aid faster recovery.
